SeqStudio genetic analyzer: cartridge, consumables and service

The SeqStudio keeps its four capillaries, polymer and anode buffer in one cartridge. Here is what to order, how long each part lasts and how to handle the cartridge so that it reaches its full life.

Updated

Key facts

  • A 4-capillary benchtop analyzer for Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis.
  • The SeqStudio Cartridge v2 (A41331) holds 28 cm capillaries, POP-1 polymer, the anode buffer and the polymer delivery system.
  • One cartridge runs up to 250 injections (1,000 samples) and lasts 6 months from its first installation.
  • The cathode buffer container (A33401, pack of 4) stays on the instrument for 2 weeks.

Handling the cartridge

  • Store cartridges upright at 2–8 °C, and do not use a cartridge after the expiry date on the package.
  • Take the cartridge out of the refrigerator no more than one hour before you install it.
  • Remove the integrated capillary protector just before you insert the cartridge.
  • Keep the capillary protector, the optical cover and the white box: you need them to store the cartridge off the instrument at 2–8 °C.
  • The RFID tag tracks injections and expiry. The software warns you when a limit is reached, and the manufacturer does not recommend running past it.

Runs and throughput

A run can be finished in as little as 30 minutes, with samples loaded in 96-well plates or 8-tube strips. The universal POP-1 polymer handles both sequencing and fragment analysis, so the same cartridge serves both applications without a change of polymer. The first-generation cartridge ran up to 125 injections; the v2 cartridge doubles that to 250.

Service and support

We help with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs, on site or remotely. Send the instrument serial number, the software version and a screenshot of the error or of the data, and we start with a remote diagnosis. See genetic analyzer service.

Frequently asked questions

How many injections does a SeqStudio cartridge last?

The SeqStudio Cartridge v2 runs up to 250 injections, which is 1,000 samples. The first-generation cartridge ran up to 125 injections.

How long can a cartridge stay in the instrument?

Six months from its first installation, or until the expiry date, whichever comes first.

Can I take the cartridge out and use it later?

Yes. Fit the capillary protector and the optical cover, put the cartridge back in its white box and store it upright at 2–8 °C.

How often do I replace the cathode buffer container?

After two weeks on the instrument. The containers come in packs of four (A33401).

Which polymer does the SeqStudio use?

POP-1, a universal polymer for sequencing and fragment analysis. It is already inside the cartridge, so there is no separate polymer to order.

Is the SeqStudio the same as the SeqStudio Flex?

No. The SeqStudio has 4 capillaries in an all-in-one cartridge. The SeqStudio Flex has 8 or 24 capillaries with separate arrays, pouches and buffer containers.
